A home gym is something that takes a while to set up. It may even take years to achieve a gym that’ll test every element of your fitness. But it doesn’t need to be that hard.
Rowing machines are a really great way to challenge every part of your body, including your heart and muscles, with just one machine. That’s right—you can achieve your fitness goals without having to spend a small fortune on equipment.
That said, with the huge array of rowing machines available, it is difficult to even make that decision. That’s why I’m going to tell you what I think of the popular WaterRower. Is it worth your money?
As I’m sure you know, rowing machines are a fantastic way to achieve an all-around workout. Want a toned core and lean figure? This is the way to do it!
WaterRower is a company that produces fantastic quality rowing machines, made using sustainable wooden materials. Its aim is to create products that are not only built for longevity but which you’ll not be ashamed to have around the house.
The unique design will make the WaterRower a staple piece in your home, and it can stand upright against a wall when not in use. Also, they use the power of water to provide smooth resistance, unlike the usual jerkiness of similar machines.
Paired with the related app, you can get the most up-to-date figures of your progress on your mobile device. So although their vintage style creates an image of grandeur and elegance, the product is by no means old fashioned.

So what makes a WaterRower special compared to the huge array of rowing machines out there? I’ll go through my favorite elements of the WaterRower, which I think make it a fantastic addition to your home gym.
The water flywheel mechanism is a great way to provide a self-regulated workout, so even a beginner will get along fine.
Want to know something else? Using a rowing machine is a really fantastic way to keep fit, especially when you’re older. This is because it’s low-impact so won’t put pressure on your joints. The tailored experience provided by the self-regulated machinery means that even an older person can use it without feeling pressured to follow a certain pace.
Also, to top it all off, the water flywheel actually creates a really smooth and quiet experience—very different from the average rowing machine. This means your family and friends won’t be disturbed, and your thoughts won’t be distracted by clunky sounds and motions.
A lot of the time, gym equipment is hardy, metal, and pretty unattractive. However, the WaterRower brand uses stunning wood from sustainable sources to build their machines. Not only is it environmentally friendly, but it’s also attractive.
What’s more, the wooden exterior actually absorbs the vibrations made as you row. This makes for a really quiet and smooth experience.
Despite the beautiful wooden exterior, we don’t always want to have a rowing machine on display at home. All WaterRowers can be stored in an upright position, and the company claims that this takes up no more space than a bicycle.
Wood is actually extremely strong and durable, which makes this a perfect material to build a rowing machine with.
In addition, the water flywheel actually furthers its durability, as the inner mechanism has less chance of wearing out.
It’s always great to see your progress as you go, and with the S4 performance monitor, this is totally achievable. It displays your stroke rate, heart rate, distance, and time, which is ideal for seeing how you’re doing. This way, you can keep track of your successes so you can keep pushing yourself to do more.
Rowing on water can be really relaxing, especially with the sound of the water rushing past as you go. What can be really frustrating about a rowing machine is the lack of reality it provides.
With the water resistance inside the WaterRower machines, you can almost mimic the real rowing experience. Simply close your eyes and listen to the relaxing sound of the water splashing around—you’ll feel as though you’re gliding along a river.
A lot of the time, when a company has a long-lasting warranty, it shows the confidence they have in their product. Initially on purchasing a WaterRower, you’ll receive just a year-long warranty.
That said, on completing a registration form, you’ll receive a three-year warranty on parts and five years on the frame. I’d say that’s a very decent period, which really represents the longevity of this product.
I have to tell you, I can’t think of any reason why the WaterRower wouldn’t make a fantastic addition to your home gym.
The only element that may cause some issues is the assembly, as rowing machines can be particularly difficult to set up. Also, they aren’t particularly budget-friendly. That said, when it comes to a high price over a great quality product that’ll last for years to come, it’s a no-brainer!
WaterRower has a number of potential options to choose from, each including the following features:
Why is the WaterRower Club rowing machine a particular favorite? I’m going to give you the lowdown on this product with a honed review, so you can decide for yourself.
The WaterRower Club certainly has it all, including the features that every other WaterRower has. But what makes this product really special?
Well, this particular machine is made using ash wood, which is not only great to look at but is more resistant to dirt than a normal natural wood machine. Also, the dual rails, which house the sliding seat, are scuff-proof. This makes it even more durable.
The S4 monitor actually has six information windows, so you can stay updated throughout your workout. This monitor can also be paired with an optional heart rate monitor, making it even more functional. You can keep better track of your progress, keeping you motivated and focused.
WaterRower has a number of other fantastic rowing machines, which all suit different purposes and home designs. They also have some less authentic machines made of metal. Below, I’m sticking to the five wooden rowers available on the WaterRower online store.

It appears that what really makes a difference between these machines is actually the look! They don’t seem to vary too much in functionality, so depending on your home interior, this will most likely become the deciding factor in which WaterRower to purchase. Either way, you’ll get a really great product.
I think my final verdict in this WaterRower review is pretty clear here—frankly, I’m sold. As I’ve explained already, a rowing machine is a great investment for a home gym, as it gives you a whole-body workout that not every machine can do. It’s important to spend your money wisely—if you’re going to be using this product regularly, instead of the array of other machines you could have, it needs to last.
The WaterRower really lives up to this, providing a sturdy wooden exterior and metal mechanism. This is also supported by the water resistance, which actually limits the inevitable wear-and-tear that may come with the average rowing machine.
If this hasn’t sold it to you, the lengthy warranty proves that the company knows its products work. Otherwise, they would simply sell it without a guarantee and be done with it!
With its good-looking exterior and compact design, you have the choice between proudly displaying the WaterRower or storing it away. You can make it a feature in your home—definitely not a bad way to spend your hard-earned money.
